1. Yes, I believe that is correct. By "data set" I assume that you are
referring to a "set of data", i.e., data from a group of different subjects.
This is different from a "dataset", which might be a single run from a
single subject. Yes, the terminology is confusing.
2. Yes, FIM+ automatically detrends (i.e., fits a constant plus linear trend)
to the data. However, this detrending applies to the entire time series
as a whole. Therefore, if the time series is actually a concatenation of
separate runs, it is important to use 3dTcat to detrend the individual runs
within the time series.

If I understand the question, you are referring to the "Baseline" button
under "Compute FIM+". The answer is no. All that this button does is:
it produces an additional sub-brick containing the Baseline estimates.
The program will estimate the baseline, whether or not you activate the
"Baseline" button.
