I'm impressed with your rapid response to this question, before
I even saw it. In fact, 3drotate first checks if a matrix
is approximately orthogonal, then it will orthogonalize it prior
to using it (assuming it passes the first test).
The matrix is the transformation from the input dataset
coordinates to the output coordinates. Rotation always takes
place about the center of the dataset volume.
