The xyz-axes ordering in AFNI follows the DICOM standard, for
some reason that made sense to me in 1994. However, you can change
the order in which the coordinates are reported. To do this, you need to
set the environment variable AFNI_ORIENT. For the details, see
the infamous README.environment file, in which many sneaky things
about AFNI are revealed to the diligent student.
