If you unpack file macosx_10.1.tgz with the command

  tar zxf macosx_10.1.tgz

you will get a lot (245) of files in directory macosx_10.1/ - most of the files in there are executable (e.g., afni). However, all the ones with graphical interfaces require you install and run an X11 server - probably XDarwin. Information on how to do that is on the AFNI for OS X page which you've already perused.

However, OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) is supposedly enough different from 10.1 that programs need to be recompiled. I can't tell if this is true for the AFNI binaries yet, since my copy of the Jaguar upgrade has yet to be delivered (ordered 10 weeks ago, and lost in hyperspace somewhere). Sorry about that, but Apple won't say when they'll ship it to me. We're bugging them every couple of weeks, but there is no answer.
