Hello,
I have recently installed the afni package from neurodebian for our lab.
** AFNI version = AFNI_2011_12_21_1014 Compile date = Dec 26 2014
** [[Precompiled binary =Debian-i686-1-gnu: Dec 26 2014]]
The installation speed was tested with the following command on the local computer:
suma -i ld120
and the speed is at about 40 displays/second
When running the same command remotely by ssh (over university high speed network) the speed is at around 0.25 displays/second from one sample remote machine while on another machine we get the following error (see below):
My questions are:
Are these slow speed to be expected when connecting remotely?
Does anyone have suggestions as to possible solutions to improve speed?
Any ideas on the meaning of the error below?
Thank you

No sumarc file found. You should create one by running the following:
suma -update_env
I also recommend you run 'suma -update_env' whenever you update AFNI.
See details for -environment and -update_env options in suma -help's output.
