Hi Cvalencia,
You have downloaded tcsh, but are still running bash.
You still need to decide which to run as your default.
IF (I don't assume) you want to change your login shell
from bash to tcsh, use "chsh -s /bin/tcsh" as that page
shows, then log out and log back in. Then your 'set path'
command should work (put that in your ~/.cshrc file).
On the other hand, if you want to continue using bash,
then update your path (in your ~/.bashrc file) as that
page shows: "export PATH=$PATH:~/abin".
If you modify your path, it might be best to just open
new terminal windows.
Basically, decide which shell you prefer and then follow
the instructions under that assumption. If you do not
know enough to have a preference, consider using tcsh.
In summary:
If you want to stick with bash:
- edit ~/.bashrc : setenv PATH {$PATH}:~/abin
- open new terminal windows
If you want to change to tcsh:
- chsh -s /bin/tcsh
- edit ~/.cshrc : set path = ( $path ~/abin )
- log out and back in
