That is annoying. Click the 'pen' checkbox, and you won't have to hold the shift button down, and there will be no beeping. With a three-button mouse, you can hold the middle button down (this sometimes requires setting the mouse driver to use mouse button 2 or middle click for the middle button) My speakers have a headphone jack, but that shift drag really does make a racket.
