We quietly added the ability for AFNI to read and write NIfTI
files a couple of weeks ago. It should be available in any
binary downloaded after 4/6 or so (Bob?).
The AFNI viewer (afni program) can read several types of
NIfTI files as native.
Most 3dXXXXX programs should be able to read NIfTI files
as native, but there are many idiosyncracies in each program
that have not been fully explored.
The best way to convert NIfTI files into AFNI BRIKs is to use
3dCopy. The best way to convert AFNI BRIKs into NIfTI
files is to use the new program 3dAFNItoNIFTI. If this
program is present in your distribution, then you have the
NIfTI functionality.
PLEASE report bugs and feature requests to the message
board or in e-mail to me personally. There are lots of planned
improvements to the functionality, and you can help us
prioritize (was that a Nixonian neologism?) them.
For those who are unfamiliar with NIfTI, you can learn
about it at http://nifti.nimh.nih.gov .
