Dr. Amanda Guyer and Dr. Paul Hastings at the Center for Mind and Brain seek a full-time postdoctoral scientist to work on a study funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. The position is for up to 3 years (annual renewal contingent on progress review and funding) with an anticipated start date of July 1st 2021. The successful candidate will join our research team, in collaboration with Dr. Elizabeth Prado and other faculty in Nutrition at UC Davis and the University of Ghana. The study is designed to examine the effects of early nutritional supplementation in infancy on the neurobiological and psychological functioning of young adolescents in Ghana using methods to assess neurophysiology in both the central and autonomic nervous systems, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with diffusion-weighted imaging and functional connectivity, as well as electrocardiography and impedance cardiography.

We are seeking to hire a postdoctoral scientist with experience analyzing neuroimaging data. Responsibilities will include processing and analyzing MRI data collected for the study, remote training and supervision of colleagues and staff in Ghana on neuroimaging data collection and analysis, training and supervising research teams UC Davis, and assisting with and/or leading the writing of manuscripts for publications. Travel to Ghana to work directly with the research team may occur, depending on global health conditions. There also will be opportunities to work on other studies and datasets, contingent on the pace of the research in Ghana. The position will be located in Davis, CA.

Position qualifications: PhD in psychology, neuroscience or a related field; experience collecting and/or working with MRI data (particularly DTI, fMRI, and/or structural MRI); strong quantitative skills and experience with neuroimaging (e.g., FSL, AFNI, SPM) and statistical analysis packages (SPSS, SAS, R, Python); ability to work independently and in a team environment on multiple tasks and projects and to share expertise through training others. Excellent scientific writing skills are also desired.
