Hi Peter,
I am finally getting around to trying this out. So far, running
these programs under fink is working. Installing PyQt4 took a
while on the mac (fink compiled many things), but it seems to be
working.
And it is better than the default PyQt4 installation, as the fink
install defaults to using X11, not Cocoa.
Note that there are some extra steps:
1. The uber programs currently start with #!/usr/bin/python
That should be changed to #!/usr/bin/env python
I will probably make this change and just see how things go.
I do not recall why I went away from that many months ago.
2. The python install won't necessarily make a python file/link
under /sw/bin. So I did, pointing to the 2.7 version:
sudo ln -s /sw/bin/python2.7 /sw/bin/python
3. The site-packages that are installed for pyqt4 end up under
/sw/lib/qt4-x11/lib/python2.7/site-packages, not under
/sw/lib/python2.7/site-packages. So you can either make
another link or probably just modify PYTHONPATH to include
that directory (in your .cshrc file, for example).
if ( $?PYTHONPATH ) then
setenv PYTHONPATH $PYTHONPATH:/sw/lib/qt4-x11/lib/python2.7/site-packages
else
setenv PYTHONPATH /sw/lib/qt4-x11/lib/python2.7/site-packages
endif
Maybe for now, just set it directly in your shell to try things out.
4. Note that of course /sw/bin needs to be before /usr/bin in
your normal PATH/path.
Hope that helps. I may suggest this as the primary method in
the future.
