AFNI Message Board

Dear AFNI users-

We are very pleased to announce that the new AFNI Message Board framework is up! Please join us at:

https://discuss.afni.nimh.nih.gov

Existing user accounts have been migrated, so returning users can login by requesting a password reset. New users can create accounts, as well, through a standard account creation process. Please note that these setup emails might initially go to spam folders (esp. for NIH users!), so please check those locations in the beginning.

The current Message Board discussion threads have been migrated to the new framework. The current Message Board will remain visible, but read-only, for a little while.

Sincerely, AFNI HQ

Hi everybody,

I have two questions about 3dROIstats. The first is a technical question about the -nzmean option. The second is more of a judgment question.

3dROIstats has two options for outputting the mean of an input dataset within a given ROI, -mean and -nzmean. As I understand it, the former averages all values from an input dataset within the ROI. The latter averages only the non-zero values from the input dataset within the ROI.

1. Does 3dROIstats use a range to identify voxels from the input dataset as zero, or does it identify only the voxels that are exactly zero?

2. When is it appropriate to use the former versus the latter?

Thanks in advance for your prompt and helpful responses!
