AFNI Message Board

Dear AFNI users-

We are very pleased to announce that the new AFNI Message Board framework is up! Please join us at:

https://discuss.afni.nimh.nih.gov

Existing user accounts have been migrated, so returning users can login by requesting a password reset. New users can create accounts, as well, through a standard account creation process. Please note that these setup emails might initially go to spam folders (esp. for NIH users!), so please check those locations in the beginning.

The current Message Board discussion threads have been migrated to the new framework. The current Message Board will remain visible, but read-only, for a little while.

Sincerely, AFNI HQ

I am comparing the output from 3dDespike against the output from 3dBandpass with the -despike flag set, and with all frequencies permitted (fbot=0 ftop=99999). With default settings for 3dDespike, they are evidently different, regardless of whether the -NEW or -OLD flag is set in 3dDespike.

(1) How are the implementations of these routines different? Specifically, is there a way to replicate the 3dBandpass output by defining certain parameters for 3dDespike?

(2) If not, is one approach (3dDespike before bandpass, or 3dBandpass with the -despike flag) recommended over the other for removing artefactual signal, e.g. motion outliers (assuming computational resources are not a limiting factor)?

(3) Are any -ort timeseries passed to 3dBandpass despiked in the same way as the primary input?

Thanks and best.
