Thank you very much for your help and for your quick reply. I entered your command into xterm, logged out, and logged in, and I am receiving the same error message. The problems are probably not related, but I have had the same problem in the past (http://afni.nimh.nih.gov/afni/community/board/read.php?1,49874,49964#msg-49964), and the binaries had to be recompiled. It had something to do with OpenMotif.
