AFNI Message Board

Dear AFNI users-

We are very pleased to announce that the new AFNI Message Board framework is up! Please join us at:

https://discuss.afni.nimh.nih.gov

Existing user accounts have been migrated, so returning users can login by requesting a password reset. New users can create accounts, as well, through a standard account creation process. Please note that these setup emails might initially go to spam folders (esp. for NIH users!), so please check those locations in the beginning.

The current Message Board discussion threads have been migrated to the new framework. The current Message Board will remain visible, but read-only, for a little while.

Sincerely, AFNI HQ

Hi John

When data is preprocessed with meica.py, we find that the defaults of kdaw=10 and rdaw=1 works stably across a wide range of datasets (7T, multiband, 11.7T rat, kids, adults). What values are you using? kdaw>20 will likely lead to some instability. Datasets processed with kdaw=10-15 should be comparable - you can show this based on similarity of total variance explained by the ICA.

I still strongly recommend preprocessing with meica.py because it handles issues like dataset scaling and masking for multi-echo data correctly. Accurate component selection depends on proper preprocessing as well, so be careful if you're using a variant preprocessing pipeline. I'd be curious to hear a bit more about your implementation if you want to discuss it.
