Regarding request 1, note that the ROI selector
is the same sort of dropdown menu button as
things like

- Choose Atlas (just above it)
- Mode (higher up)
- ULay/OLay/Thr (in the Define Overlay panel)

and many others.

For any of these buttons, one can click on the
text immediately to the left (or the small blank
area, if there is no text, such as for the ROI
selector we are discussing), and afni will open
a scroll-bar menu selector of the same items.
