My experience with Ubuntu was that the defaults in it were suited a bit more to the GUI-preferred user base, and often as a standalone machine. My impression could of course be totally wrong. I know this can all be tweaked, and configured of course. I'm just looking for a robust distro that will allow my workstations to run analysis software, but also other services(apache/httpd,nfs, mysql/php/mediawiki, etc).
