Postdoc+Faculty Position

This is a position aimed at candidates from underrepresented groups, and candidates from any background whose research relates to DEI issues. It starts as a postdoc position and is intended to convert to a faculty position in two years. The position is suitable for those who are finishing graduate school, are currently in a postdoc position, or in a non-tenure-track position such as Research Assistant Professor. Specialization in any area of neuroscience is welcome, including cognitive neuroscience.

Designed to attract, support, and retain scholars from groups historically underrepresented in their departments or fields, this “Bridge to Faculty” postdoctoral position in the Department of Psychology is part of a new and exciting initiative at the University of South Carolina (USC). The purpose of the Bridge to Faculty Program is to recruit early-career scholars who, if successful during the post-doctoral period, may have the opportunity to transition to tenure track faculty at USC starting in the 2025-2026 academic year.

The Bridge to Faculty Program enables Scholars to deepen their research expertise, expand their scholarly profiles, undertake academic work in neuroscience and/or health equity in the department, and strengthen the university’s research community through their diverse perspectives. The Bridge to Faculty scholar in the Psychology Department will join eleven other scholars from across the university who will form a dynamic and supportive community of scholars.
Situated in USC’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Bridge to Faculty Scholars have a unique opportunity to receive:

• Professional development preparing the fellow for a full-time faculty position
• Training and development in research, pedagogy, and strategic engagement
• Additional mentorship from senior professors and university administrators
• Networking and connection-building with university administration
• Opportunities to engage and practice as an active member of the USC community

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Psychology, Psychological Sciences, Neuroscience, or an area relevant to neuroscience or psychological sciences. We anticipate that the candidate will work closely with 1-2 primary research mentor/s to accelerate transdisciplinary efforts in basic, clinical, and/or intervention research in neuroscience and/or health equity and will meet regularly with other advisors and mentors within the department and across the university to gain professional development skills. This individual should aspire to become an independent researcher and productive faculty member at an R1-level university. The successful candidate must be committed to teaching and mentoring diverse students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The selection committee welcomes applications from candidates who contribute to increasing diversity in their fields, as historically underrepresented persons in higher education, and/or by pursing scholarship that contributes to understanding issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, past or present. Apply here:

The deadline is April 5, but applications will be considered after that till the position if filled. Please contact Peter Vento (pvento@mailbox.sc.edu) with questions.
