The program 3dZcutup can slice and dice, as can the more general program 3dZeropad. You could then use 3dAutomask on each 1-slice dataset to generate a mask of intra-brain voxels, then use 3dmaskave to average the time series. If you don't want to bother with a mask and want to just average all time series, then 3dmaskave can operate without a mask dataset. For your purposes, I'd recommend the
-q option to 3dmaskave to generate a "pure" 1D time series of numbers, and redirect the output to a file. You can then do a quick graph of these time series with the 1dplot program.
This should keep you busy a little while, and off the cruel streets of Halifax.
