Would it be of any use for someone (such as me) to sponsor a repository of scripts of various natures, maybe through a web site or ftp server?

If there are sufficient comments to explain what's going on, then I think such a repository would be useful. We can create such a directory here, no problemo. However, we really can't answer questions about other people's stuff, so if any issues come up, you'll have to bear the brunt of the "quick questions".
