AFNI Message Board

Dear AFNI users-

We are very pleased to announce that the new AFNI Message Board framework is up! Please join us at:

https://discuss.afni.nimh.nih.gov

Existing user accounts have been migrated, so returning users can login by requesting a password reset. New users can create accounts, as well, through a standard account creation process. Please note that these setup emails might initially go to spam folders (esp. for NIH users!), so please check those locations in the beginning.

The current Message Board discussion threads have been migrated to the new framework. The current Message Board will remain visible, but read-only, for a little while.

Sincerely, AFNI HQ

The exact reason for the failure is the request for testing the interaction term AB. The F test for the interaction in a 2-way design AXB with both A and B being random factors is

F = MSAB/MSE

The problem is that with sample size of 1 in your case MSE is indeterminate (SSE = 0, and its degrees of freedom are also 0).

But I have more basic questions about your analysis:

(1) Why are both A and B treated as random factors (-type 2 in 3dANOVA2)?
(2) Why are you running such an analysis with one subject instead of a group of subjects?
