A more basic question is, why are you using waver? It is largely obsolete now due to the incorporation of most of its features into the -stim_times options of 3dDeconvolve.

However, the purpose of waver is to create a realistic model of the hemodynamic BOLD response to neural activation. Blood changes lag behind neural changes by about 4 seconds. This is why you are getting time delays, and should also be seeing blurring in time.

Your question indicates to me that you are somewhat confused about how FMRI data analysis is structured. This is a moderately complicated subject, and hard to deal with in a message board post. Resources available on our Web site include the material we use for teaching AFNI, which you can find at

In particular, the afni04 and afni05 presentations comprise an outline of the basic theory and practice of FMRI time series model fitting.
