All,
I've used regions of CA_N27_ML as masks to compare lateralized activation in the temporal lobes. However, I have noticed that some regions have significantly different volumes for left vs right. For instance, the volume of left superior temporal gyrus (region 81) is only 72% of the right STG (region code 82). Left SMG (region 63) is only 64% of the volume of R SMG (region 64). Etc...
I couldn't find any mention of these volume asymmetries in the papers referenced in the whereami help file. Am I doing something wrong in creating these volumes?
whereami -prefix L_STG -mask_atlas_region 'CA_N27_ML::81'
whereami -prefix R_STG -mask_atlas_region 'CA_N27_ML::82'
etc...
Have I missed this topic being discussed in one of the references?
I have heard that Colin 27 has an asymmetries in planum temporale but I can't remember where and couldn't find the paper. Is the volume asymmetry an artifact of Colin's neuroanatomy?
How can I accommodate these volume differences while still referring to an anatomical region contained in an atlas?
Thanks,
Andrew
