AFNI Message Board

Dear AFNI users-

We are very pleased to announce that the new AFNI Message Board framework is up! Please join us at:

https://discuss.afni.nimh.nih.gov

Existing user accounts have been migrated, so returning users can login by requesting a password reset. New users can create accounts, as well, through a standard account creation process. Please note that these setup emails might initially go to spam folders (esp. for NIH users!), so please check those locations in the beginning.

The current Message Board discussion threads have been migrated to the new framework. The current Message Board will remain visible, but read-only, for a little while.

Sincerely, AFNI HQ

Position in the Development of MRI Processing Pipelines

Applications are invited for a position as a developer of magnetic resonance imaging
(MRI) processing pipelines for quantifying aspects of brain structure at the Rotman
Research Institute of the University of Toronto, Canada. The Rotman Institute is part of
a large collaborative cognitive neuroscience community in Toronto with research foci
ranging from brain mechanisms of memory, attention and executive function, to their
changes across the lifespan and resulting from brain damage or disease, to the
development of cognitive rehabilitation strategies. Neuroimaging is a key methodology
across all of these programs. The Rotman Research Institute has a research-dedicated
Siemens 3 Tesla MRI system and state-of-the-art electroencephalography and
magnetoencephalography laboratories in-house.

The successful candidate will also be part of the Heart and Stroke Centre for Stroke
Recovery (HSFCSR). HSFCSR is a virtual organization made up of three leading
healthcare centres: Baycrest/Rotman Research Institute; Sunnybrook Health Sciences
Centre; and the Ottawa Health Research Institute/University of Ottawa, in a unique
public-private partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario. More
information about HSFCSR can be found at www.hsfcsr.ca.

The successful candidate will develop, implement, maintain and operate a software
platform for automatic analysis of structural MR images particularly as needed for largescale
population-based studies (n > 500). A typical “pipeline” runs in a Linux
environment, consists of a combination of in-house and external modules (e.g. FSL,
FreeSurfer) that, in turn, consist of robust algorithms for image registration, tissue
classification and segmentation, tractography, shape analysis, etc. Salary is
commensurate with experience.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team of
experienced researchers, Ph.D. students and computer scientists. The ideal candidate will
have a Masters or PhD degree in a relevant discipline, including but not restricted to
electrical engineering, computer science, and medical physics together with relevant IT
experience. Serious consideration will be given to less experienced but highly motivated
candidates, particularly those with demonstrated knowledge of medical image analysis.
For the appropriate candidate, there will be opportunities for self-directed research.

The successful candidate will be diligent, communicative and open-minded with a
flexible approach to working in an academic environment. Ability to multi-task, and a
real appetite to acquire new skills and knowledge are positive advantages in applying for
this role, where it is a requirement to be a team player and to interact effectively with less
technically inclined people.

Contact

Candidates should email a detailed CV, a letter of motivation, and the names and
addresses of three referees to Randy McIntosh (rmcintosh@rotman-baycrest.on.ca).

Review of applications will begin in September 15, 2008, and will continue until the
position is filled.
