AFNI Message Board

Dear AFNI users-

We are very pleased to announce that the new AFNI Message Board framework is up! Please join us at:

https://discuss.afni.nimh.nih.gov

Existing user accounts have been migrated, so returning users can login by requesting a password reset. New users can create accounts, as well, through a standard account creation process. Please note that these setup emails might initially go to spam folders (esp. for NIH users!), so please check those locations in the beginning.

The current Message Board discussion threads have been migrated to the new framework. The current Message Board will remain visible, but read-only, for a little while.

Sincerely, AFNI HQ

AFNI Gurus,

We're seeing that different groups are smoothing their data at different points along the analysis pipeline. Some are blurring prior to regression and standardization to TLRC. Others are waiting until after regression, but prior to TLRC standardization. Another group smoothed the data at two points, first a 3mm FWHM prior to any other preprocessing and then a subsequent 6mm FWHM following regression and TLRC standardization (voxel size = 3x3x3)

We're wondering what are the respective pros/cons of blurring at these different points in the analysis path, and do you have a recommendation on when is the most appropriate time to perform the smoothing?
