The smoothing result looks pretty good and the measured smoothness by 3dFWHMx is very close to specified parameters for single image smoothing using 3dBlurToFWHM.
A remaining problem is 3dBlurToFWHM can only specify a uniform target smoothness (FHWM) or a target smoothness for the RMS of x and y only (FHWMxy). PET images usually have relative smaller in-plane smoothness (8-10 mm after coregistration and normalization) than z-direction (12-13 mm). Is there any way to control the target smoothness of x, y and z separatly? I'm currently using a imperfect workaround as following, but z-smoothness is not well controlled and x-y cannot be controlled separately:
3dBlurToFWHM -input wpet+orig -prefix wpet_sm1 -mask wpmask.nii -FWHM 14 -maxite 15
3dBlurToFWHM -input wpet_sm1+orig -prefix wpet_sm2 -mask wpmask.nii -FWHMxy 12
Thanks,
