Hello colleagues,

Please widely forward the following announcement to talented undergraduate and post-graduate students hoping to gain more experience in cognitive/affective neuroscience before graduate school.

Lab Manager/Research Assistant Position
AACT Lab, University of Denver
Director: Kateri McRae, Ph.D.

The laboratory for the study of automaticity, affect, control & thought (the AACT Lab) at The University of Denver is seeking to fill a part- or full-time position with responsibilities as both a lab manager and a research assistant. The person filling this position will have central involvement in several research studies investigating the nature of emotion/cognition interactions, including the impact of several types of cognition on emotional processing, the types of emotions that are most malleable by emotion regulation, and individual differences that impact cognition/emotion interactions. The laboratory, under the direction of Kateri McRae, uses multiple methods (neuroimaging, psychophysiology, self-report) to evaluate cognitive and emotional processing. The lab manager/RA will be expected to support daily research function in the lab on several levels, and will have the opportunity to be centrally involved in several exciting research projects in the area of affective and cognitive neuroscience, as well as participate in the highly collaborative psychology department at The University of Denver. The nature and extent of this involvement will depend on the employee's personal career goals.

Applicants are required to have research experience in a psychology laboratory, strong familiarity with mac, PC and unix workstations, basic computer skills (web browsing, email, MS Office), data management experience (Excel and/or SPSS) and excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

Preferred applicants will have experience in a cognitive neuroscience or emotion lab, have experience with functional neuroimaging data (preferably using SPM or AFNI), experience providing technical support to others, and a strong desire to design and implement long-lasting centralized laboratory resources (public lab website, internal lab wiki).

Exceptional applicants will have strong conceptual knowledge about statistical analysis, experience implementing computer networking and data storage solutions, basic programming/scripting skills (Matlab, bash/python), and the ability to implement and maintain rigorous and efficient practices.

Part-time and full-time applicants will be considered, with competitive hourly wage commensurate with experience. Benefits are available at part-time and full-time compensation levels. Position will begin September 1 or 15, 2010. Applicants who can commit for 2 years are strongly preferred. Interested applicants, or those with questions should contact the director of the lab directly by emailing Kateri.McRae@du.edu. More information on the AACT Lab can be found here: [www.du.edu]
