Dear AFNI users-
We are very pleased to announce that the new AFNI Message Board framework is up! Please join us at:
https://discuss.afni.nimh.nih.gov
Existing user accounts have been migrated, so returning users can login by requesting a password reset. New users can create accounts, as well, through a standard account creation process. Please note that these setup emails might initially go to spam folders (esp. for NIH users!), so please check those locations in the beginning.
The current Message Board discussion threads have been migrated to the new framework. The current Message Board will remain visible, but read-only, for a little while.
Sincerely,
AFNI HQ

So it not a change of default value as I thought but a new method for handling gradient values higher than the B=0 which just happened to always equate with FA=1 in the CC voxels I examined. That explains the discrepancy. It wasn't clear to me from the history that the method had changed.
Thank you very much for clarifying that and providing the reference.

In the output of the new version I now see a few very low FA values in the corpus callosum as well as some around CSF.
New version: 0.123456
