Note that on a Windows 10 machine, there are native Linux/Ubuntu kernels now available. See here and links therein for setting one up and using AFNI there:

In general, these seem pretty nice, probably have better memory usage on a given system than the virtual boxes, and might be simpler for analyses. This might be something to consider switching to/using on your system, at some point.
