Hi Graham,
Use of SAME is now obsolete. See:
[
afni.nimh.nih.gov]
That is a result of what _used_ to be the definition of a
directly mappable surface. For instance, when you sent a
surface from suma to afni, if it had SAME for a MappingRef,
it would be displayed with it's own coordintes. If it did
not have SAME there, it would simply be shown as the surface
from its MappingRef line. So if a surface did not have SAME
there, it would not be used by the other surface programs.
A description of using 'SAME' as the MappingRef didn't appear
in any help until it appeared in SurfMeasures, but it has
since disappeared because that use of the MappingRef was
indeed confusing (and was short on information). Ziad has
changed the fields in the spec file to make the fields able
to separate more cases.
If you upgrade to a current version of the package, you will
no longer have to worry about putting SAME for the MappingRef
line. The programs 3dSurf2Vol, 3dVol2Surf, SurfMeasures and
SurfSmooth all require '-surf_A SURFACE' and optionally,
'-surf_B SURFACE' for choosing surfaces now.
I hope this helps,
- rick
