The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is seeking candidates for a Program Officer position to serve as the Chief of Informatics Research and Development in the Office of Translational Research and Scientific Technology. This position will provide leadership and guidance in the area of informatics across multiple grant and contract funding programs within the Office, and will play an important role in informatics activities that span multiple divisions of the NIMH and the NIH. This position is responsible for establishing goals and directions of informatics initiatives and activities, and for stimulating, developing, and administering grants and contracts in this area. Informatics research and resource areas under the purview of this position are wide ranging, including but not limited to: data regarding gene sequences, images, algorithms, as well as best practices such as development of controlled vocabularies and ontologies, etc. The scientific and technical background appropriate for this position could come from any of a large number of areas, including, but not limited to: informatics, computational biology, computer science, applied mathematics, physics, neuroimaging, radiology, psychology, genetics, neuroscience, molecular biology, chemistry, bioengineering, etc.
Candidates must be a U.S. citizen and have at least a doctorate degree. The person filling this position will work closely with the Associate Director of the NIMH for Scientific Technology Research. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively is required. Strong scientific, analytic, communication, and organizational skills are also required.
