What were the commands that failed, along with the error messages?
It is most likely the case that something is not properly set with your
path. Since you installed as root user, did you go back and fix your
path with the directory where you placed the AFNI binaries? Where
did you put them?
As the normal user, "echo $path". You should see that directory in
the output list. If not, you will need to add it in you .cshrc file. If you
have already done that, did you log out and log back in, or did you
just 'source' the .cshrc file? If you just did 'source', then you need to
'rehash' in any terminal where you want to run the commands (the
shell uses a hash table of commands, it does not search your path
every time). That is why I suggest to log out and log back in.
