Thanks Gang, that helps a lot.
One last clarification: is the whole brain Anova in AFNI, with the incorporated contrasts (i.e., t-tests), doing the same as this suggested analysis protocol for decomposing significant interactions? this is with a block design dataset.

1) identify clusters that show a group x task interaction
2) extract the beta weights from those clusters
3) do post-hocs.
