For duration modulation alone (which is what I was commenting on),
AM1 is the only appropriate choice.
For amplitude modulation alone (which is what the 3dDeconvolve help
refers to), then AM2 is usually the more appropriate choice (so one
models the modulation separately from the average response).
When doing both, the second point applies.
Basically, duration modulation is not amplitude modulation. It only
uses the similar syntax out of convenience.

So if your lab mate is applying amplitude modulation parameters in
addition to the duration modulation parameters, then AM2 is good.
But if it is just duration modulation, then I don't even know what
3dDeconvolve would do in that case.
Hmmm, let's see...
So trying it out, the current version of 3dD actually converts AM2
to AM1 in that case, and outputs warnings about it. Maybe your lab
mate is not even doing AM2 then...
